Abstract
The present usage of cost control by firms within the construction industry is inconsistent. The cost control systems presently used provide tremendous variations of capabilities. These variations make for the inconsistency of data format and utilization for the cost control process. Construction firms have realized the need to provide for proper cost control to remain competitive within the industry, and they have become increasingly interested in more completely integrated cost control systems. The research presents an integrated cost control system for the construction industry. The model presented is to provide insight into the various segments of a cost control system. The research examines these various components and developes integrated approaches to provide information in a format usable for the construction industry. The format of the data collected and outputed is presented to provide maximum flexibility and utility of the information. The research presents a cost coding system for proper identification of data. The research provides a review of the controls required for the different resources available to the construction firms. A system of forms is developed to properly record and present the cost control and historical data bank information. The research also presents statistical tools that can be utilized to test the data collection process as well as the quality of the data to be used for the cost control process.
