Abstract
The objective of this research was to study the planning of linear construction processes and analyze their production behavior. Different techniques for attaining this objective including simulation, linear programming, and queuing theory were investigated. The MicroCYCLONE system as a simulation alternative was selected as a vehicle for achieving the methodological development due to its credibility and the availability of its source codes. The thesis presented a modeling methodology for the general characteristics of linear processes individually as well as collectively. This includes variability of productivity and availability of resources, learning curve development, and increase in travel time. Factors that contribute to the impact of such characteristics were also highlighted. Different case studies were utilized to identify the impact of these characteristics on the production of repetitive processes.
