Abstract
Offsite construction (OSC) and building information modeling (BIM) integration offer significant benefits but also present challenges requiring structured guidelines. Currently, there is a lack of a multilevel integration framework to address these challenges. This study develops a framework focused on integration challenges, using literature reviews, surveys, case studies, and validation through a focus group. Findings reveal that challenges vary across the project life cycle and maturity levels, with collaboration among stakeholders being crucial to mitigating these challenges. The framework aims to enhance the integration process by identifying and addressing challenges related to maturity levels and the project life cycle, ultimately improving the efficiency and effectiveness of OSC and BIM integration practices. By providing stakeholders with the essential tools to address complexities, the framework enhances integration effectiveness across the entire project life cycle. The emphasize on stakeholder collaboration underscores the importance of collective efforts in overcoming integration challenges, contributing to the success of construction projects. This study's limitations include its focus on New Zealand construction projects, a sample size of 116 participants, and the relatively low levels of BIM and OSC experience among respondents. Further research is needed to validate the framework with larger and more diverse samples, and additional case studies are recommended to broaden the findings.
