Abstract
In the construction industry today, the goal of profit and a higher bottom line have not changed. The introduction of the workforce as a value-added asset in the company increased the bottom line. In this study, the researcher identifies the importance of Human Resources in choosing the right candidate for the Training Programs and the company. The selection of apprenticeship candidates and proper training can be very costly. The researcher of this study will review the current selection process for apprentices utilizing the Cognitive/Affective Theory and compare it to Conation Theory results from the Kolbe Program. The Conation Theory is studied to identify loyal candidates with natural talent and creative energy to solve problems and complete the course. These natural talents separate the construction industry workforce from other industry workers. The participants selected were from several Construction Apprenticeship Programs of Construction Trade Local Unions located in the Western region of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The specific participants consisted of 220 construction apprentices qualified as candidates in the second year of their apprenticeship. The Data Collection Methodology consists of classroom tests, field performance scores, and Kolbe A Assessment participant score. The results/findings of all the hypothesized results, based on Path Analysis, lead to no relationships and unsupported research questions. An additional group analysis altered some results but not all. Future research is strongly supported.
