Graca, Moacyr Eduardo Alves da (1985) Formulation of a model for evaluation of the determinant conditions for secondary vent need in buildings' drainage systems. PhD thesis, Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil.
Abstract
The Building Drainage Systems, in Brazil, have not had an adequate development during the last decades, as it should be expected for a country of continental area and high rates of populational growth. In this work several factors, affecting the behavior of the Building Drainage Systems have been studied with a view towards the simplification of the Vent Systems. We have considered the performance requirements, the systems evolution and the hydraulics and pneumatics factors that influence the performance of such systems. An evaluation model for the determinant conditions of the need of secondary vent systems is presented. An application of the design criteria for a residential multistorey building with five floors, indicates that the use of Single Stack Systems is a viable alternative for this kind of building. The cost comparison between the Fully Ventilated Systems, as it is usually applied in Brazil, and the Single Stack Systems showed the possibility of cost reduction of about 30 to 40%.

N.B. Descriptive scope is a count of how many of the five facets of empirical research are indicated by the words used in title, abstract and keywords. It is not intended as a judgement on the research; merely a count of the kind of word we would expect to indicate Phenomenon, Concepts, Theoretical framing, Empirical techniques, Analytical techniques. If all five are present, then a code of “5 PCTEA” will indicate this. If you feel the coding for this record is questionable, we welcome discussion around the terms we matched or the way we categorized them. The facet you would expect may not be coded, or a facet may be coded inappropriately. This can also bear on a larger question, of which facets should be treated as defining in construction management research. Please get in touch, and we will look at it. More details here
