Abstract
The country's economic slowdown, caused by the recent crisis, had a negative impact on construction, leading to a considerable reduction in the volume of companies in the sector. This research aims to propose a methodology of risk management in micro and small construction companies operating in the construction industry. The central problem of this work focuses on the evidence of risk factors that cause negative impacts associated with schedule delays and increased costs, generating losses of competitiveness for these organizations. The elementary hypothesis of this research suggests the possibility of identifying areas with greater probability of incidence of risks and their respective impacts, thus establishing a risk management approach that allows aligning operational plans with the strategic drivers of the organizations. In the quantitative phase of the research, through a non-probabilistic sample, 133 professionals, specialists in the civil construction sector answered the questionnaires. The data obtained were analyzed with the aid of the software SPSS 21v., Where, through the analysis of the Chronbach Alpha ordinal, the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) criterion and Bartlett's Sphericity, verified the reliability, validity and objectivity of these data, respectively. Based on the acceptance of the initial results, verifying the normality of these data, the exploratory factorial analysis was performed for ordinal data and its results were directed to the identification of risk events related to five organizational areas that were considered critical (planning, financial , compliance, human resources and supplies) because they present greater potential of risks associated to schedule delays and increase of the operational costs in the planning, execution and monitoring and control phases of the projects. The practical proposal of this work places on the strategic importance of adopting concepts of risk management as a way to increase the competitiveness of micro and small enterprises in the construction sector. The originality proposed by this research arises from a sectorial and prospective analysis, through a method directed to the implantation of risk management practices that contribute to the survival of these micro and small companies in the face of the threats of a highly competitive sector and vulnerable to economic instabilities from the country.
