Abstract

In the current research landscape, there is a lack of a thorough assessment of the elements that influence project performance, particularly in the field of dam projects. Despite extensive research in the discipline of project management, there is a notable scarcity of empirical research focusing on the performance of dam projects. The importance of closing this gap cannot be overstated when considering the enormous economic, sociological, and environmental impacts that are associated with dams. Experts in the Australian dam industry were surveyed to fill this knowledge gap. The purpose of this study is to analyze the success criteria (SC) and critical success factors (CSFs) specific to the design phase of dam projects, thereby providing a comprehensive understanding of the elements that significantly impact project success. Exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modeling were utilized to investigate SC and CSFs in the project's design phase. The study contributes to the limited research on successful dam projects, offering practitioners valuable insights to enhance project performance and achieve project objectives efficiently.
