Abstract
The prevalence of demand fluctuations within the construction sector underscores the necessity for contractors to deepen their knowledge of the determinants of construction demand, as a lack of such insight can adversely affect their survival. Consequently, the objective of this study was to identify the key determinants of construction demand to assist contractors in estimating demand for their services. Utilizing a sequential exploratory mixed-method approach, questionnaires were developed and distributed to 279 contractors identified through the works directorates of 25 public universities. Through exploratory factor analysis with varimax rotation, four key determinants of construction demand were identified. These findings provide contractors with critical insights to enable them to better estimate demand for their services. It is recommended that contractors monitor these key determinants to inform their marketing strategies. Future research could employ confirmatory factor analysis or fuzzy synthetic evaluation methods to yield more comprehensive insights on this subject.

N.B. Descriptive scope is a count of how many of the five facets of empirical research are indicated by the words used in title, abstract and keywords. It is not intended as a judgement on the research; merely a count of the kind of word we would expect to indicate Phenomenon, Concepts, Theoretical framing, Empirical techniques, Analytical techniques. If all five are present, then a code of “5 PCTEA” will indicate this. If you feel the coding for this record is questionable, we welcome discussion around the terms we matched or the way we categorized them. The facet you would expect may not be coded, or a facet may be coded inappropriately. This can also bear on a larger question, of which facets should be treated as defining in construction management research. Please get in touch, and we will look at it. More details here
