Abstract

Infrastructure development fails satisfactorily to observe stakeholder inclusion and participation in at least one if not all its project life cycle. Additionally, moderating influence of stakeholder involvement is not adequately tested to ascertain its impact on socio-economic projects. The study sought to determine the moderating influence of stakeholder involvement between project management lifecycle (PMLC) and performance of slums upgrading projects (PSUP) in Nairobi County in Kenya. Using survey design and correlational research design, a target population of 794 was established from which a sample of 266 was obtained while 208 respondents responded to a 5-point Likert Scale questionnaire. Results obtained indicated a very strong positive linear and significant correlation between stakeholder involvement and PSUP (r = 0.801, p =.000 <.05). Null hypothesis was rejected and concluded that stakeholder involvement has a significant moderating influence on the relationship between PMLC and PSUP. Recommendations of the study include: setting up project deliverables at the initiation stage, resource planning, utilization of Critical Path Method (CPM), Gantt Chats, Program Evaluation Review Technique (PERT), need for Monitoring and Evaluation training, stakeholder involvement in project lifecycle.
