Abstract

Modern construction projects widely rely on digital systems such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), Common Data Environments (CDEs), and cloud-based collaboration platforms to manage complex information workflows. While these tools support basic data exchange and model coordination, they lack structured mechanisms for fine-grained version control, asynchronous change auditing, and traceable multi-role collaboration. As a result, issues such as version confusion, delayed approvals, and fragmented workflows frequently arise. To address these limitations, this study proposes a version-controlled and role-driven information management strategy that introduces an active request–review–merge loop, a trunk–branch–freeze versioning protocol, and lifecycle-based traceability tagging. By integrating standardized information generation, version tracking, change auditing, and feedback-driven collaboration mechanisms, the proposed framework systematically addresses information fragmentation and coordination challenges. A scenario-based simulation and expert Delphi evaluation were conducted to assess the strategy's effectiveness. Results demonstrate significant improvements in version traceability (94.3%), collaboration response time (3.8 h), and information flow integrity (96.5%), outperforming traditional methods. This research establishes a lightweight, role-driven collaboration governance model, offering a theoretically grounded and practically viable approach to enhance construction information systems.
