Abstract
Circular economy business models (CEBMs) help organisations reduce waste and improve resource use. However, there is limited understanding of the key activities needed to adopt CEBMs in construction organisations. Hence, this study addresses this gap by identifying and validating these activities for CEBM adoption in construction organisations. An exploratory sequential mixed-methods approach was used. First, qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The findings informed a structured questionnaire used in the quantitative phase. The results were analysed using descriptive statistics, relative importance index, Kruskal–Wallis test, and confirmatory factor analysis. The study found that taking back used components, providing used products, designing for reassembly, and offering access to product functionality are the most influential key activities for CEBM adoption in construction. All measurement model parameters met the required fit indices. These findings will help construction organisations understand the key activities construct in the adoption of CEBM and build sustainable value. Furthermore, this study contributes to knowledge by exploring CEBM key activities in construction, an area with limited focus.
