Abstract
Accidents during scaffold work on construction sites are often attributed to improper installation of the scaffolds. A critical aspect of the scaffold installation status involves the tightness of joints, determined by small components such as ledger ends and pins, which are challenging to inspect because of the extensive number of joints in a scaffold. This paper introduces a method using point cloud data acquired by a terrestrial laser scanner to automate the scaffold joint inspection. The approach generates a set of joint images from point cloud data, evaluates the safety of the scaffold joints within the images, and subsequently maps the safety evaluations back onto the point cloud data. Experimental results confirmed the proposed method's effectiveness in accurately inspecting the safety of scaffold joints and localizing the problematic joints within the point cloud data, demonstrating its efficacy for scaffold joint inspection.
