Abstract
In recent decades, the economy and population have grown rapidly, driving the transportation sector, and is expected to grow considerably in future decades. The transportation sector's rapid growth has caused road traffic and accidents. Traffic accidents are a global issue because they inflict irreparable financial and human losses. This paper aims at identifying and exploring the unban road safety factors associated with traffic accidents and evaluates the same with effective and suitable Multi-Criteria-Decision–Making (MCDM) tools like Fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (Fuzzy-DEMATEL) and Consistent Fuzzy Preference Relations (CFPR). CFPR establishes consistent expert recommendations for road safety requirements while Fuzzy DEMATEL helps in creating cause-and-effect relationships under uncertainty amongst the factors associated with the road safety. The study examines pedestrian dynamics, traffic, vehicle behavior, infrastructure quality, and regulation enforcement using surveys and secondary data. The cause-and-effect model prioritizes infrastructure design and traffic management system improvements that can be implemented immediately. This work will improve holistic road safety management in all aspects. Since the concept is generic in nature, this model is applicable across the globe.
