Abstract
Although green wall systems are widely adopted in developed nations, their uptake in developing countries remains limited due to various challenges. Identifying the factors driving their adoption is crucial for facilitating their integration into urban construction and overcoming existing barriers. This study aims to examine the key drivers influencing the adoption of green wall systems in construction activities, with a particular focus on Lagos State, Nigeria. This study employed a quantitative research approach, using a structured questionnaire survey to collect data from built environment professionals. The Relative Importance Index (RII) was utilized to analyze responses and rank adoption drivers based on their significance. Additionally, Kendall's coefficient of concordance (Kendall's W) was applied to assess the consistency of responses among stakeholders. The results indicated that the key motivators for green wall adoption were air quality improvement, health and well-being benefits, mitigation of the urban heat island (UHI) effect, energy efficiency and thermal insulation and stormwater management. The analysis revealed a distinct hierarchy in the perceived significance of these drivers among stakeholders. This research contributes to the limited body of knowledge on green wall adoption in developing countries, specifically within the context of Lagos State, Nigeria. It offers a thorough analysis of the factors influencing green wall adoption and provides practical recommendations for promoting their use in urban construction. The study's findings can inform future research and guide efforts to integrate green infrastructure into urban planning and development in similar contexts.
