Abstract
Background: Expectations of the client are not met today because buildings have evolved from a simple structure towards a high-performance product and until recently no known delivery method has been able to fully solve the job. Today a new delivery system, IPD - Integrated Project Delivery, has found its way to both practice and academia and has the potential to fully solve the job of satisfying the customer.Aim: However, there is a knowledge gap surrounding IPD and the aim of this research was to fill this. The knowledge gap within IPD was dual and started with the lack of in-depth knowledge on each of the five elements: contract, culture, organization, Lean Construction and BIM and on the effect, each of the have elements have on IPD. Method: The Method used for reaching the aim of this research was a Critical literature review.Results: The results of this research consist of a detailed description of the IPD concept and each of its five elements. The discussion furthermore revealed that the use of lean principles could be structured and streamlined through the SCRUM process. Also, the IPD concept presented similarities with the 7-S McKinsey which enables the possibility of developing IPD through the structure of the 7-S model.Conclusion: The research concluded that the IPD system defines a framework where the ability to design and produce high-performance buildings is possible. Furthermore, a large unexploited potential was recognized in the IPD system which could be unleashed through further research and experience with adaptation
