Factors effecting construction contractors' performance

Assaf, S A; Al-Hammad, A M and Ubaid, A (1996) Factors effecting construction contractors' performance. Building Research & Information, 24(3), pp. 157-163. ISSN 0961-3218

Abstract

This paper outlines characteristics and their degree of influence on performance level based on a study of royal commission projects executed by 36 different Saudi and joint venture firms in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia. A number of interesting and important aspects have been achieved in this research; in particular, that quality of work should be of major concern to contractors and could become a pre-requisite in any selection process by the client body. Contract documentation should be clear and should not include ambiguous clauses and contradictory documentation, as this only leads to problems for all parties during the contract and a low performance rating from the contractor.

N.B. Descriptive scope is a count of how many of the five facets of empirical research are indicated by the words used in title, abstract and keywords. It is not intended as a judgement on the research; merely a count of the kind of word we would expect to indicate Phenomenon, Concepts, Theoretical framing, Empirical techniques, Analytical techniques. If all five are present, then a code of “5 PCTEA” will indicate this. If you feel the coding for this record is questionable, we welcome discussion around the terms we matched or the way we categorized them. The facet you would expect may not be coded, or a facet may be coded inappropriately. This can also bear on a larger question, of which facets should be treated as defining in construction management research. Please get in touch, and we will look at it. More details here
